Ripples

A Sensor-based installation
Nanyang Technological University
Paper, Motors and Phidget

This is a sensor-based installation exploring the idea of how we all have an effect on each other. For instance,in the morning if we greet a stranger, their day is made. Therefore to explore this relationship between people we created a work that creates  a ripple effect based on camera sensors. The paper folding technique was inspired by a Japanese art form and the pattern created a interconnected design. As people walk under each paper, the camera picks up the motion and activates the motor to lift the paper so that it will concave. Each paper is installed with a motor and each of them will concave as there are people underneath. This installation was done using MAX/MSP and Phidget.
